Scholarship Opportunities

The Santa Barbara Women Lawyers Foundation issues a number of scholarships each year of varying amounts ($1,500 - $3,500) to law students of all genders. Scholarship applicants are evaluated based on a multitude of factors, as identified in the various scholarships below.

Please complete the application, including responses to questions fully (typed), as well as the mandatory items identified on the instruction page of the application, and submit either:

  1.  A hard copy, executed original, postmarked by January 31, 2018; or
  2.  A PDF emailed as an attachment to sbwlfoundation@gmail.com to be received by 6:30 p.m. on January 31, 2018.

SBWLF Scholarships

The minimum scholarship amount for a recipient of an SBWLF Scholarship is $1,500.  Scholarship applicants will be evaluated based on following criteria:

  • Academic achievement
  • Financial need
  • Commitment to gender equality
  • Overcoming setbacks
  • Leadership
  • Dedication to the Santa Barbara legal community

McLafferty Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship applicants will be evaluated based on the same criteria as the SBWLF Scholarships.  The applicant who best encompasses the above traits is awarded the coveted McLafferty Scholarship, in honor of Judge McLafferty.

Anticouni & Associates Scholarship

Anticouni & Associates will award a $3,000 scholarship to a law student based on the following criteria:

  • Financial need
  • Overcoming obstacles based on socioeconomic and/or educational disadvantage

Nordstrand Black Scholarship

Scholarship applicants will be evaluated based on the same criteria as the SBWLF Scholarships.  The scholarship is sponsored by Nordstrand Black PC.

Justinia Rivard Scholarship

Scholarship applicants will be evaluated based on the same criteria as the SBWLF Scholarships.  The scholarship is sponsored by an anonymous donor.
